Canadian Immigration Is Increasing

The government’s latest plan for immigration to Canada, released on November 1, 2022, makes available 465,000 Canadian visas for permanent residency during 2023, which is significantly higher than the 2022 target of 431,645 immigrants.

Skilled immigrants will be the largest portion of these 465,000 new Canadians in 2023, including 105,500 through the Provincial Nominee Program, and 82,880 via the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class Program.

Foreign workers who apply for permanent residency in Canada through these four Canadian immigration programs can do so using the Express Entry system.

Canada is one of the world's top immigration destinations.

Express Entry is the fastest way for skilled foreign workers to immigrate to Canada as permanent residents.

An applicant must first create an online Express Entry profile with his or her details regarding family, education, work experience, English and/or French language skills and other information.

Officials from the Canadian immigration agency will then review the profile and place eligible applicants in the Express Entry pool of candidates.

Once the Invitation to Apply (ITA) is given, the Express Entry candidate will have 60 days to file the Application for Canadian Permanent Residency, along with the required documents and government fees.

A decision is usually received within six months after the Application for Canadian Permanent Residency is made using the Express Entry system.

Canadian permanent residency will also be available in 2023 to 8,500 foreign workers through the Atlantic Immigration Program, for those who want to live and work in Canada’s Atlantic Provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Another 8,500 foreign workers can immigrate to Canada via the Caregiver Programs, Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, Agri-Food Pilot, and Economic Mobility Pathways Project.

There are 3,500 Canadian visas for permanent residency available to foreign entrepreneurs through the Start-Up Visa Program and Self-Employed Persons Program.

Thousands of foreign workers who wish to live in Canada’s French-speaking province of Quebec can apply for the Quebec Skilled Worker Program.

Besides foreign workers, 106,500 spouses, common-law partners, dependent children, parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents can immigrate to Canada through Family Sponsorship in 2023.

Canada is one of the top countries for families.
